Jugband Goose
Jugband Goose is an experimental ambient and electronic project by filmmaker Tyler Gaucheron-Land in 2017. The project focuses on drones, long or unconventional song structures and blending different electronic and experimental styles together.
Land's first release under the moniker was the 27 minute 'single' In the Clouds of Luff. "Its combination of ambient drones, experimental tonality, improvisation and minimalist ideas make for a sonic journey nearly half an hour in length". In 2018, Jugband Goose would go on to release the 24 minute aural odyssey Miss Alexander's Rabbit Hole and the 40 minute dark ambient piece My Void. In November of the same year, Jugband Goose would finally release his debut album, Distant Sunsets. The original idea was for these six tracks to contrast in length with the 20 - 40 minute pieces that had been released under the Jugband Goose moniker whilst still using similar ideas that were present in the longer tracks. Jugband Goose continued to experiment with varying soundscapes on his sophomore record, The Impermanence of Self, released in October 2019. 'The Impermanence of Self' is a collection of long droning pieces inspired by thoughts on the finite existence of our kind. The format for making this record was done by taking sub minute long compositions and stretching them into ambient drones. The result is six compositions which vary in tone and atmosphere. Some feel empty, others feel ethereal but they all carry interesting sounds. These pieces slowly develop over their long run times, creating soundscapes which can act as background music or an interesting tonal experience for the patient listener.
It was on Christmas Day of 2019 where Jugband Goose announced his next album, JUGBAND 52. JUGBAND 52 is a record that lasted the duration of 2020. A new song was added every Wednesday with a description about each track discussing thoughts about the music and the state of the world or as he put it "a musical journal of sorts as we embrace the new year and the new decade". Two songs from this project ended up being used in Tyler Gaucheron-Land's short film Radiator 5. The year long endeavour resulted in being 4 and 1/2 hours long, covering genres such as noise, industrial, chill out, new age, downtempo and many more.
On the 1st of January after the completion of the album, Tyler announced that he is putting the Jugband Goose moniker on hiatus as he begins to think about where he wants to take the project in the future.
